How can we promote our animal rescue?
I work with a new animal rescue. We aren’t a shelter, but get animals that are going to be euthanized and place them in foster homes until they can be adopted. We have a website and advertise on Craig’s List. I’m just not sure what other ways I could suggest we market ourselves to let people in our area check us out before they adopt.
Our local horse rescue has a cool idea, with a few adjustments you could make it work for dogs too!
They put eligible horses in foster homes with qualified people who have 100 days to train them. And in September they had a competition type event, and there were some things every horse/rider pair had to do, and they got points. And the winner at the end got ribbons and a trophy. There was also a ‘freestyle’ event where the horses and riders got to show off their special tricks, etc. At the end there was an auction to adopt the horses. All the bidders had to be pre-qualified with the rescue.
For dogs, you could have them show off their sit, stay, down, etc. And for the freestyle, they could show off any agility training they’ve learned, or flyball, frisbee, or anything else.

You could also put flyers in pet stores, featuring some animals that are up for adoption, or that need foster homes.
You could put ads up on PetFinder.com
Good luck!

I’m Friends with an organization on myspace. Every week they post a bulletin of all the photos of animals about to be put to sleep. A photo really connects people.
Also, ever think about getting you animals together every Saturday and Sunday for a public adoption? Most business will let you do it in front of their stores because it brings them business.
Another great ways is to make a brochure and place them in churches, groomers, pet stores etc…
If you need help with a brochure I am a graphic designer and printer. I am always willing to help out a good cause. Here is my blog about it.

Another cool thing to do is giveaway a dog or cat bowl to anyone who adopts. Make sure your name is on the bowl. That way your clients will always remember who you are so when their friend wants to get a pet they are more likely to remember you. That is something else I can help you with.

Make posters with some of your success stories on them & put them up around the area you want to target. Put posters with pictures of what you have ready to be adopted at the moment up in vets clinics & pet food shops. Also arrange a picnic for all your dogs & their new owners twice yearly & hold it at a dog park. Approach other animal type websites to add your website as a link. Hold competitions on your website to get more people looking at it.
