In Hope, An Animal Shelter Story
As a nation, we claim to love cats and dogs. Millions of households have pets, and billions of dollars are spent yearly on pet supplies and food. But as a nation, we should take a hard, sobering look at a different annual statistic: the millions of dogs and cats given up to shelters or left to die on the streets. And the numbers tell only half the story.
Every cat or dog who dies as a result of pet overpopulation—whether humanely in a shelter or by injury, disease, or neglect—is an animal who, more often than not, would have made a wonderful companion, if given the chance. Tremendous as the problem of pet overpopulation is, it can be solved if each of us takes just one small step, starting with not allowing our animals to breed. Here’s information about this crisis and why spaying and neutering is the first step to a solution.

Not only are …
Not only are thousands of animals born because their owners don’t care enough to alter them, but the big booming money making business of puppy mills creates misery during the animals lives and takes up homes that could have been devoted to responsibly bred pets. It’s all about greed and heartlessness in puppymills. 99% of all dogs sold in pet stores come from puppy mills and back yard breeders. You pay a premium and more animals suffer and die. Puppymills are EVIL!

While many shelters …
While many shelters are not perfect and do not practice what they preach, There are MANY MORE who do, and do all they can to help animals. Not all animals that come to shelters are adoptable- serious medical problems and aggression contribute greatly to euthanasia. I agree that you need to educate yourself before helping any cause, but don’t disregard all because of the actions of a few! Sometimes if you get involved and you help an organization, you can also help CHANGE it.

I understand what …
I understand what you are saying but we have to try and be a voice for these animals sign petitions against BSL and all forms of abuse. Go to the Care 2 petition site and make your voice known, contact your state representatives and let them know how you feel. I agree also that the world’s love of money is to blame for a lot the problems, I hope you are a registered voter in your state because you can make a difference one vote at a time, together all those who care can make a difference.

I used to work at a …
I used to work at a vet, just an assistant, and it was one of the most horrible experiences. I witnessed first hand what animals go through, they are not even safe at the hands of some vets…which is why I left that vet. It touched me personally as well, the most horrible sight I seen working at that vet was the freezer full of dead bodies, even 1 day old puppies, and then how they were handled afterwards…dumped in a landfill…sick, just sick.

I agree, but you …
I agree, but you see, our government doesn’t care about animals rights, if they did, alot of the injustice that goes on wouldn’t. Our “leaders” can put an end to alot of the horrible things that go on in this world, like abortion for example, but they choose not to…when it all comes down to it, money is all they care about. If people could respect God’s creations & ALL life, this world would be such a better place, and we might be able to finally find peace.

The cause of the …
The cause of the rising euthanasia happens because shelters like the one in Kern County CA kills up to 80-percent of the animals as they come in the door. It kills them before people are allowed to adopt them, before rescue groups are allowed to help them, and before their owners are given the time period mandated by law to reclaim them.
THEY are not alone… educate yourselves before you romanticize the cause.

Don´t buy from …
Don´t buy from breeders!
Don´t support puppy mills!
Stop the source of this misery!
why can you buy pets in American shopping malls? This tells us a lot about the consumers´ attitude there. “Well, let´s buy a dog, a dress and shoes.”
Write to your city´s mayor and protest if you have a kill shelter in your community.
Donate so that poor people can have their pets neutered.
Make a difference!

People pleas be …
People pleas be responsible pet owners spay or neuter your pet, I think is ought to become a law in every state and if you don’t fix your pets you should be fined or jailed and the pet should be taken from the owners. It’s time for things to change people have got to be more accountable, these pets are dying because of human negligence. If you are not going to care for the animal then don’t get one. Adopt from shelters give the animal a life, and please avoid puppy mills.

it’s very sad when …
it’s very sad when people see a powerful video and can find a way to fight about it. If you are a show dog breeder who is breeding responsibly, then the comments and spaying and neutering do not apply to you. it is a very well known fact that foster care is many times worse, in a lot of cases. orphanages are just as bad. however, having compassion for animals does not mean that someone is automatically ignoring the plight of children who are in foster care. lets keep the gloves on, please/

soccerkiksass, your …
soccerkiksass, your lack of empathy for foster kids is alarming. Yes, there are children beaten to death every day in foster care. You don’t care because you don’t see them. It’s not popular to care about them. They are just stupid human children to you. Were you raised by parents? Should your parents have been spayed and neutered?
I spend my life caring for and rescuing stray dogs yet you want to force me to spay and neuter my show dogs. What have you done for animals today?
