Should i get a cat from a shelter or pet store?
i saw about 4 cats in a pet store, but there werent alot so it seemed like hey were poorly treated. in the shelter here are tons of cats but hey are all cramped in small cages. where should i get a cat?
i no alot of people feel strongly about geting cats from shelters. i dont disagree but they all need homes, right?
I hear your dilemma. I also wonder what to do when thinking about those animals. People always say "don’t but at a pet store, you are supporting the puppy’kitty mills" but what are they going to do if your don’t purchase them? they are going to sit there until someone does, why not you? and the purchase of just one pet can’t be making or breaking someplace like that.
But, on the flip side, those poor animals in shelters! They are packed in there with so many others, fighting for food. And most shelters kill an animal after it’s been there for "too long".
I personally would go to the shelter. I have a cat, now 2 yrs. old. from a shelter. she was 6 weeks when I got her and I love her. She is not a Pure Bred, but she also was not thousands of dollars either. I guess the choice is yours.

The ones facing death if not adopted are at the shelter. It’s a no-brainer.

I would get one from a shelter, because those are cats that were abandoned or strays, and they need a good home. Depending on the pet store, they might have got them from a breeder. Rescuing a kitty is a wonderful thing, especially around this time of year, when it’s cold outside. Cats in shelters will also get put down if they’ve been there too long, unless it’s a no-kill shelter. Some pet stores, like Petco, offer only adoptable cats and do not sell cats at all.
Shelters are usually really good about helping you pick the perfect cat. So you can find a cat that matches your personality.

If you believe that the pet store is not properly taking care of the cats, call a humane society or county shelter and make a complaint.
Get the kitten or cat from the shelter. Before you do, make an appointment with the vet so you can immediately take the cat in for a health check. Anytime cats are in a confined area such as a shelter or pet store the risk of hidden illness is high.
By getting your cat from the shelter, you are saving a life, as most of the cats are put down do to over population. By taking the cat to the vet right away, you are being an excellent pet owner and showing responsibility. Best wishes to you and your cat. You will have many loving years together.

well if u think you can get a purebreed from a petstor for like over $700 aussie dollars
bt you can also get a purebreed cat from a shelter for like a 7th or 8th of that price
and shelter animals are genrally more affectionate!

Get a cat from your local shelter. Pet stores buy from breeders or kitty mills. Please support you animal shelter, there is a better pick, too.
Animals from the shelter are more loving and cuddly because they know what its like not to have a home and want a home. Please get a cat from the shelter. I can’t stress that enough. I see cats come and go daily. Its sad, but adopt and save a life.
Good Luck
