A Purina Pets for Pet People survey of more than 180 Adopt-A-Pet animal shelters and rescue organizations nationwide identified the Top 10 most important things adopters can do to make sure they have a positive and successful adoption experience. According to the survey, the number one step is to make a real commitment to care for the new pet for its entire life, just as they would with a child. Additional permanent adoption tips on the Top 10 list can be found at Adopt-A-Pet.com.
Prospective pet owners can download the Permanent Pet Adoption Checklist and enjoy a video featuring Victoria Stilwell, author and host of “It’s Me or the Dog,” offering advice from the checklist as well as her own pet adoption tips.
And, as a way to treat pets already in permanent homes, Purina is offering current and prospective pet owners the chance to save more than $15 on food and treats through Purina PetLover Savings coupons appearing in local newspapers.

I know it sounds weird, but my husband really wants a pet Squirrel, and not some wild one. We have heard of people having them as pets, and even on movies. Is it legal to have a pet Squirrel, and where do people get them?
Illegal in most states. Plus they will tear up everything in your house, and it would be cruel to make it stay confined in a cage for long period of time. They are a highly active animal.
Why don’t you try sugar gliders? They are a legal version of a squirrel (they are flying squirrel like marsupials). Just google for them and I heard that as long as they are socialized, they make good pets. I have worked with some non-tame ones, and I think with enough time, they would be easy to socialize.

I would like to adopt a pet but the SPCA charges a $75 fee to adopt an animal. I would like a small cute kitten that has been examined by a vet and is ok for me to adopt.
most of the time the adoption fee is just to cover the time the animal spent with the group. They may include the spay/neuter fee but alot dont. They may also give you a cupon for the spay/neuter but you need to check with the vet anyway on price. the cupon most of the time covers only the procedure, not the stay at the vets or even the check up and shots. adopting a kitten means you will have to take it to the vet at a later date for the proceduresine they cant do it at a tender young age. i would sugest adopting an older cat as it will only cost you the yearly check up and most shelters have many to choose from and free adopt a cat days. or fid a free litter and then only have the reg, vet bills to pay. good luck

I want to get a small breed puppy and I was thinking about getting one from Petsmart. Does anyone know what they do, how much usually, and if they even have a good selection?
I used to work at Petsmart, and can tell you, you WOULD be getting a good dog (puppy if you prefer). All dogs are heartworm tested, have shots, have been tested to make sure they are good, well tempered dogs, and either spayed or neutered already, or if they are too small the spaying or neutering is included in the cost. The cost can be anywhere from $45 to $60 and worth every penny. I hope you do that after all, many dogs have been living in those kennels their entire little lives and need to go to a home. Good luck to you.
As for "ccourtcl": That is a rare instance, where something went wrong, if it’s true. People like her think everyone has all the money in the world to do all kinds of extravagant tests and studies before making decisions. Do what your heart tells you to do and then leave it up to God to help you do the rest!!!!
