Farmington residents clash over proposed fees

Farmington residents tell Eyewitness News 4 what they think about proposed mandatory fees for owning your pet and riding your bicycle.
City councilor Jason Sandel is proposing the fees to help pay for projects the city doesn’t have money for.
An annual $20 pet license would help pay for a new regional animal shelter, Sandel said.
Other New Mexico cities that charge annual pet owner fees include $6 in Albuquerque, $5 in Santa Fe, and $4 in Rio Rancho for pets that are spayed and neutered.
“We’ve got the lives of 4000 animals each year that are being euthanized,” Sandel said. “I don’t think that we can wait five or ten years.”
The city cut funding for a proposed $7.5 million animal shelter due to budget problems.
Some pet owners like the idea.
“I think it would be wonderful,” pet owner Judie Raysin said. “I would probably pay twice as much.”
Other pet owners say the city should come up with other fundraising ideas.
“I don’t think that we should be fined another $20 just for the privilege of owning our dogs,” pet owner Diana Rogge said.

TVA’s Support Local Farm Sanctuaries walk

Toronto Vegetarian Association’s first-ever support local farm sanctuaries trot-a-thon fundraiser on Aug. 21, 2010, began at Christie Pitts and headed towards Panacea Vegan Eco-Shop and then back to the park for a delicious and bountiful vegan potluck lunch and raffle.

Holly Larson, a member of the organizing committee of the Toronto Vegetarian Association’s Support Local Farm Sanctuaries campaign www.veg.ca/santuaries, says: “In order to support the great work being done by farmed-animal sanctuaries in Ontario, TVA has joined forces with Animal Outreach www.animaloutreach.ca — a London, Ontario nonprofit group whose mission is to provide shelter and care for abandoned, neglected, unwanted, injured and abused domesticated animals, including farm animals… Together with TVA’s work in advocacy of a plant-based diet, and the local farm sanctuaries’ work saving farm animals, we can educate the public about the plight of farm animals and how choosing a cruelty-free diet is the most compassionate choice.”

Pitbull Attacks Female Animal Control Officer

This lady obviously loved her Pit Bull and was not abusive towards it. She’s no gangbanger neither. Did she teach this dog to be so aggressive? NO. She’s just an average dog owner who’s incapable of training such a DANGEROUS breed of dog that requires the owner to be constantly vigilant & in full control AT ALL TIMES. This is from a Pro-Pit Bull owner’s website.

Pit Bulls were specifically bred to fight to the death for 100’s of years (throughout most of its history). This cannot be instantly erased.

All dogs bites, but Pits are prone to bite to the death. It’s in their genes. Herding dogs that were born and raised in the city and never around livestock… will often time herd their owner’s children automatically w/o any training b/c it’s ingrained into their genes. Pit Bulls, will tend to attack & kill, it’s in their genes.

Sure, the Pit will be loving & protective towards its owners (and owner’s family) who loves & feeds it. But it’s the neighbors’ kids and/or dogs that will get mauled should one of these Pit Bulls get loose. Many dogs gets loose once or twice or more in their lifetime (they just run around and have fun and maybe seek to mate other dogs)….why is it that it’s only loose Pit Bulls that seeks & attacks little kids & other dogs to the death (usually)?

The first words out of a dog owner’s mouth after their dog has bitten someone is that “My dog doesn’t bite and this has never happened before”. Well no shit. If their dog has bitten before and it resulted in serious injuries, they would have had their sued into the poor house and would have gotten rid of the dog…or the law took it away and killed it. So anytime their dog bites, it’s always going to be this first time with this dog.

I don’t care how great of a trainer you are, no one can control any dog completely. They have a brain and can act on their own. Idiots who tries to make analogies with guns are stupid. Guns are inanimate objects, totally reliant on the owner to be discharged. While a dog shares the responsibility with its owner. Factor in the fact that Pit Bulls were bred to fight & kill, makes it much more volatile than other breeds. Where are the videos of other breeds causing such mayhem and such levels of damage on its victims?

Worse are the idiots who tries to compare Pit Bulls to humans. Animals do not have human rights you idiot.

Yes, even Pit Bulls were trained to obey handlers and cease during an organized dog fight, but they’re not as obedient as other breeds. This is why Law Enforcement rarely use them (also due to their poor eyesight and poor smelling sense). Maybe it’s due to their poor eyesight that they mistaken little children for other dogs and mauls them. They’re great hunting dogs though, b/c they search & destroy. So why are they kept as family pets in densely populated areas?

Pit Bulls are a dangerous breed. The average dog owner should not be allowed to own them. Should people be allowed to own wolves, hyenas, coyotes, etc… in the suburbs too? You can raise a wolf from birth and it can be domesticated and love your family and YOUR children. And even protect YOUR family. But it’s the neighbors’ families that needs to worry about their children getting mauled to death by your DANGEROUS pet should it get loose or when it perceive that your children are in danger when playing with other kids and attacks the other kids.

It’s funny how Pit Bull owners post videos of their cute Pit Bull playing with their OWN kids. No your own Pit Bull is going to be loyal to you and your family. If it weren’t, then you’d have it killed or given away to shelters so they can kill it for you….and you wouldn’t post a video of your own Pit biting your own children. Why don’t you try this test, invite a bunch of kids over who your Pit Bull has never met before and have them play wrestle your own kids in front of the Pit Bull. How about letting your Pit Bull loose and unleashed inside a playground full of children on a Saturday afternoon? Let’s see a video of that.

If Pit Bull owners say that Pit Bulls weren’t bred to be aggressive towards humans but yet they are the ones causing the most serious injuries & deaths, then what does that say about a breed that becomes aggressive towards humans on their own?

Look at how many vicious attacks by Pit Bulls are caught on VIDEO compared to any other breeds. Why aren’t there as many from other breeds? Considering that APBT aren’t even the most dominant breed owned as pets in America. Coincident?

Look at this guy’s YouTube channel with over FIVE HUNDRED PIT BULL INCIDENTS reported by the news, etc.

www.youtube.com/zupf

Think this is a media conspiracy? Only stupid people grasps for such straws. The media would report just as many serious attacks by other breeds. The problem is, there aren’t even remotely as many compared to Pit Bull attacks.
