The Humane Society is checking my house to approve me for an adoption of a pit bull mix just wondering why they need to do this and what do they look for.
If anyone has experience that would be great!!
They know I have two dogs and a cat already – everyone met (escape the cat) the potential new pup to the group and they get along great. I have been just waiting for this house check!! – and hope that doesn’t ruin anything
OH and they are only doing a house check because of the BREED – If I were adopting a small terrier they would just let me have her already! But since she is in the pitbull/rotty category a house check is needed – I’m guessing to make sure I’m not a dog fighter!
Electric clutter that the dog could get into
chemicals and cleaning stuff- make sure it’s safe and away
toys and clutter and pens that the dog could chew up
if you have a pool, there has to be a fence
if you have a fenced in yard
do the people seem like an okay fit
do they know about poisonous foods that dogs can’t eat like chocolate and grapes
how will the dog get exercise
where will the dog sleep
where will the dog stay when home alone
what will you do if you can not take of the dog anymore
are you willing to provide training
what vet do you use
do you rent, or own your house, apartment, or condo

I’m planning on applying to vet school soon and I know it’s too soon but I really want to work for the Humane Society in my city. I’ve been volunteering there for a long time now. I really want to find the highest paying job first as right now I am very poor and plus I’ll need the money in order to pay off tuition. What do you think? These humane societies are nonprofit by the way.
They either do the work for free or very low cost. Certainly will be the lowest paying position for a vet which being a volunteer you should know how tight their budgets are.
Does it cost anything to drop off my 2 dogs at the humane society?
I have 2 dogs, I love them so much but they refuse to go to the bathroom outside, they pee and poop everywhere, they tear out trash too. I don’t want to take them to the Humane Society but my boyfriend doesn’t want them anymore. They are messing up the apartment and making it spell bad. I don’t want him to drop them off in the middle of nowhere, like his original plan. So, does it cost anything to take them to the humane society?
most shelters do ussually charge some kind of drop-off fee.. yes. It helps them recoup the costs of running the facility and feeding and caring for the dogs.
Humane Society of Missouri Rescued More Than 90 Yorkies from Substandard Puppy Mill
Housed in filthy, overcrowded, wire-bottom cages, their coats so over-grown and matted they couldnt see or walk, more than 90 Yorkshire terriers lived their entire lives with little social interaction and no veterinary care.
They needed help. Friday the 13th turned out to be their lucky day!
The Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Taskforce drove more than 500 miles and spent more than 19 hours rescuing these pitiful dogs from a substandard puppy mill in Greene County.
Friday, Feb. 13, 2009-When they arrived in St. Louis, our triage team of veterinarians, animals care staff and groomers went to work. We found dental disease, skin and bone infections, malnutrition and heartworms. Nearly 50 lbs. of disgusting, noxious, matted hair was shaved from these dogs. Each was given a clean, warm, comfy place to sleep with plenty of food and water perhaps for the first time in their lives.
