Why Not Get A Shelter Dog?

I love those shelter dog commercials where the dog is talking.

Anyways!

This lil ball of loving fluff was a stray.
He was thrown out and left on his own.
After finding him we waited in the front of our house, he came to our back yard, for his owner to come looking.
Nadda.
Went to 3 vets and had him checked for a ID microchip.
Nadda.
Had the vets put up “Dog found” flier things.
Nadda.
He was seemingly unwanted.
He would have been sent to the shelter if we hadn’t found him.

Yet as you can see there is nothing wrong with him.
Though there was something really wrong with the owner to leave this guy to fend on his own :/

He’s officially ours now and in prefect health :3
When I found him he was so skinny I could see every bone in his body, even through his thick fur I could see his ribs.
Now he’s about 16 lbs I believe it was and has the prefect body fat ratio :3
He wakes me up every morning with this act, rolling around and pawing at me for more attention.
He’s house trained and gets along perfectly with our other 2 dogs.
He even likes my bunny, though I limit their interaction to sniffing each other.

And I think most people worry how the dog is going to be around kids.
This lil guy is amazing with kids. He never bites or even nips.
And is extremely gentle with kids of any age.

He’s about 2 years old, maybe 2 and a half now. We’ve had him for about a year. So he’s not gonna leave us any time soon :3

So next time your thinking about adding a fuzzy kid to your family, why not think about getting a shelter dog :3

Bert Rotti X Rescue Dog for Adoption @ Cheltenham Animal Shelter

Gender: Male
Breed: Rottie Cross
Age: 1 Year

Bert was found as a straying and brought to the Shelter. He is a great lad who barks like mad when you approach his kennel which is almost certainly putting people off. However, take him out of the kennel environment and into our paddock and he is an altogether different dog. Bert is friendly, quick to learn and will make a great pet. As we know nothing about Bert’s past we can only place him in an adult only home. Is he the boy for you?

Bert has been neutered, microchipped and his vaccinations are up to date. He has also been wormed and flea treated and comes with 4 weeks free insurance.

For more information or to arrange to visit Bert please call 0871 2230404 or email rehoming@gawa.org.uk

How old should we reach in order to be a volunteer for a pet shelter?

I’m 12 and i want to be a volunteer for Humane Society in Huntington BEach. But i’m afraid that i’m too young to be a volunteer. Does anyone know about this? I’m kinda experienced with dogs. I used to have 2 dogs in the past so i know how to take care of dogs. And can anyone tell me what a VOLUNTEER does? Walk the dogs, feed them, bathe them, take care of them? Please help

Minimum age at the Orange County Humane Society in Huntington Beach is 18 years of age: http://ochumanesociety.com/custom_content/c_88885_pawticipate_volunteer_programs.html If your parents consent, it’s possible that your family could volunteer as a foster home. You would take care of animals that need extra TLC until they are able to be put up for adoption.

Santa Monica Shelter: ‘Jackie’ female calico cat looking for a home HD (posted 8/14/10)

More info @ Jackie’s petfinder page: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/17066373

Jackie gets her name from her amazing acrobatics, she’s just like Jackie Chan! She loves to prowl around the tops of doors. Watching her leap up is really incredible she looks like she can fly.

Her coloring is also unique. She has a beautiful silky coat with plenty of white and pretty tortie markings. Even though she can easily get up and away from the crowd, she does like to visit with you and see what’s going on. She sometimes likes to curl up beside you or with another cat buddy. She’s a talkative girl and will let you know when she needs some attention.

Jackie is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Santa Monica Shelter: ‘Xena’ female cat looking for a home HD (posted 8/12/10)

More info @ Xena’s petfinder page: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16563155

Xena is available for adoption from Santa Monica Animal Services in Santa Monica, California (current as of August 12, 2010).

Xena is a petite adult cat who looks like kitten.

Xena is very tolerant of other cats (she lives in the community cat room with several other cats), and is affectionate with humans- she often ambles over to me when I call her and jumps up onto my lap. I personally have not seen Xena play much- she seems more content to find a warm lap or cozy cat condo on which to sit than chase kitten toys.

Xena would would be a happy addition to lots of different kind of homes. She is independent enough to flourish as an only cat, but could do well in a large cat family since she is so easy going and respectful. She would probably do well with children who would not chase or roughhouse with her.

Please consider adding Xena to your family!

Xena is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.
