Amazing Shelter Dog Vinny Love Trick Training Part 2 !!

Watch Vinny Love perform some of his trick stunts.

I rescued him from a high-kill shelter with dog aggression issues, and have been training him myself for the past 3 years.

I didn’t raise him from when he was a puppy. In fact, I know nothing of his history. He’s not purebred. And he didn’t have the perfect manners, in fact he had aggression issues! However, with training, he was able to transform into a great dog with wonderful manners. I see tons of awesome purebred dogs doing stunts and obedience but Vinny and I are proof that mix-breed shelter dogs can do it too, EVEN the ones with behavior issues!

Our goal through these videos is to not only showcase Vinny Love’s talent, but more importantly, show the world that there are MILLIONS of remarkable animals just like Vinny being KILLED in animal shelters worldwide. If Vinny and I have even inspired 1 person to adopt his/her next animal through our videos, we’ve done our job.

A Shelter Dog’s Story

A shelter dog’s story: Watch the story of how an ill-mannered former shelter dog, Vinny Love, transforms into a wonderful companion with talent!

I didn’t raise him from when he was a puppy. In fact, I know nothing of his history. He’s not purebred. And he didn’t have the perfect manners, in fact he had aggression issues! However, with training, he was able to transform into a great dog with wonderful manners. I see tons of awesome purebred Retrievers, German Shepherds, Australian Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Border Collies, and Jack Russell Terriers doing stunts and obedience but Vinny and I are proof that mix-breed shelter dogs can do it too, EVEN the ones with behavior issues!

Our goal through these videos is to not only showcase Vinny Love’s talent, but more importantly, show the world that there are MILLIONS of remarkable animals just like Vinny being euthanized and KILLED in animal shelters worldwide. Animal Shelter Standards: Governor’s Weekly Message – August 6, 2010

Governor Jack Markell explains the new Delaware law he signed this summer creating first-of-their-kind animal shelter standards for Delaware.

The law puts Delaware in the forefront of shelter standards in the country by ensuring that shelters provide proper veterinary care to animals, take reasonable steps to increase the likelihood of animal adoption, and address euthanasia procedures and methods.

Markell also shares the story of an abandoned pet they brought into their home.

The law was sponsored by State Senator Patricia Blevins (D-Elsmere) and championed in the House by State Representative Melanie George (D-Bear/Newark). All five animal shelters in the state– Delaware SPCA, Kent County SPCA, Delaware Humane Association, Faithful Friends and Safe Havens Shelter – support the new standards.

-Savin Me- Shelter Tribute

I just finally finsihed it! Just a little something I did with some of my pictures I had.

Support and Help out at your local animal Shelter and also, please Spay and Neuter. Puppies and Kittens may be cute when their young, but they grow and one day will end up in a shelter cause there is no time for them or cause a mess and it will help with the overpopulation of animals.

How old to you have to be to volunteer at a pet shelter?

I don’t know where one is here (North Carolina) so if any body knows one, Feel free to share.

I think they might prefer you to be 18, but why don’t you call them and find out for sure ?

Some businesses will allow volunteers/interns (between 15 and 20 years) if they like you and feel they can help you out and it won’t turn into a big liability issue for them.

What are the requirements for adopting a pet from your local animal shelter?

I would like to compare them with the rules/regulations in place at the local shelter here. I think something is not quite legitimate about it. I know four people who have applied for different dogs recently; all were turned down for various reasons. None have any history of animal abuse/neglect, all are (as far as I know) responsible, loving pet owners. All had references, a vet., etc. I would like to compare other known rules/regulations regarding adoption with other animal shelters. This shelter just reopened recently. It was closed for awhile for unknown reasons. One friend was told the puppy she applied for had been transfered to another shelter, then they told her the puppy was adopted. By this time we became suspicious, so we checked on the web, only to find out that the puppy was now at another "no-kill" shelter which rescues dogs before they are euthanized. This has raised a lot of questions.

That is more than a little odd. Maybe they have a parvo problem that they don’t want to admit and are turning all prospective adopters until they get it cleaned up. That could take six months. I don’t think I’d go there again looking for a dog.

Some shelters have no requirements at all, except that you pay the fee. Others want to do a credit check (which I think is an invasion of privacy) and want to inspect the home to be sure the yard is safe and fenced (good idea). Most want to know if your last few dogs died unexpectedly or ran away, and if you have a good history with your vet for getting your dogs proper care.
