Do vets that work at Humane Society shelters in the US get paid less?

I’m planning on applying to vet school soon and I know it’s too soon but I really want to work for the humane society in my city. I’ve been volunteering there for a long time now. I really want to find the highest paying job first as right now I am very poor and plus I’ll need the money in order to pay off tuition. What do you think? These humane societies are nonprofit by the way.

They either do the work for free or very low cost. Certainly will be the lowest paying position for a vet which being a volunteer you should know how tight their budgets are.

Around here the vets work in the shelters for free "pro bono". They all have their own practices to actually earn money

Vets who work n the humane society spaying and neutering animals usually do not work for free—why would they do that?
Usually paid by the day or per animal altered. At least this is the case in texas.
If a vet has a private practice—no time to work at the humane society…

PS I am sure you could work for free–they would love that. But as a general rule—every job is negotiable. Priovate practice would earn the best income–especially a busy one and you are paid on commission. Good luck!

Well vets don’t get paid as much as they should. And vets who work at humane societies get paid even less. They charge like 25 dollars for spay/neuter surgeries and just recently they did the 500 free male cat neuter surgeries at our humane society, so just imagine! Most of them are probably really old who have the money to do it already or are working for another practice on the side.
